Job Title

Kitchen Assistant - 35 Hours a week at our Fitzwilliam House Care Home in Cottenham Cambridge

Responsible to

Home Manager/Deputy Manager

Purpose of Role

To assist the cook in providing satisfying meals for service users, whilst reporting to the cook in order to maintain standards of hygiene required and to maintain a safe working environment

Main Duties and Responsibilities

- To assist the Chef in the preparation and serving of meals, as requested by the service users.

- To maintain the kitchen and all equipment therein to the required standards.

- To assist in the economic use of materials

- Washing Pots and Plates

- General Daily Kitchen Cleaning

- Sandwich Making

-Deep Cleaning in Kitchen

- To work to the identified and agreed schedules, without intruding on service users preferences.

- To monitor and maintain effective stock control and rotation

- To have a comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety issues, particularly in respect of Basic Food Hygiene, COSHH, safe moving and handling and working within the guidelines relating to cross infection.

- To identify and report any malfunction or damage to equipment, in accordance with the company’s maintenance reporting procedure.

- To work in co-operation with other Care Staff

- To actively promote a non-discriminatory approach to the service industry.


- To adhere to and maintain the company’s polices and procedures.

- To effectively participate in the management of any concerns or representations raised

- To observe for, and assist in resolving, any signs of abuse, in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.

- To conduct one self professionally, in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct, through behaviour, communication skills, appearance and standards of personal hygiene.

- To clear the dishes, wash up and clean the kitchen and dining areas.

- To be aware of the clients dietary needs and respond to their comments and requests in respect of the menu

- To dispose of waste correctly.

- To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention being paid to perishable goods
